Class Description
The Ashtanga Vinyasa method is intended to be a daily practice.
Led Basics
The 60 minutes basics class is a great place to start if you are new to yoga or have never done Ashtanga yoga before. The teacher will guide you through sun salutations, standing postures, a few seated postures, and the closing series. Emphasis is on breath, bandhas (energetic locks), drishti (gaze), and alignment. Modifications are offered as needed.
Led Primary
This 90 minute class is for those with some experience with Ashtanga. Known as "Yoga Chikitsa" in Sanskrit, or Yoga Therapy, the Primary Series is a purifying practice that builds strength and flexibility in the body and tones the nervous system. Every breath has a movement, every movement has a breath.
Yin Yoga
In this class, students utilize a combination of flow with a deep and still practice. Longer holds are used to lengthen and stretch the connective tissues of the body, remove energetic blocks, and increase circulation. Gravity is utilized, rather than props, to help intensify stretches naturally. The practice will be inspired by the Yin system of yoga. The origin of the Yin practice dates back thousands of years and has roots in Daoism and Hatha yoga.
